Preview within Designer
The designer module offers a basic preview in the "HTML preview" tab.
From here you can easily go to the rendering simulation tool (1) or change the canvas size (2).
Rendering simulation tool
You can access "rendering simulation" from the "HTML preview" in Designer.
With the simulation tool, you can test conditional blocks using data from contacts in your database to test a range of inputs.
Type the email of a contact in (1), then click "check" (2). If the email contains the string "$firstname$" it will get replaced with the name of the contact (3).
You can also test field values directly by selecting a field from the drop-down list (4) and typing in a value. The message is rendered when you click "check" (2).
Change canvas size – "Responsive" button
When checking design preview or rendering simulation (see above), you can use the "Responsive" drop-down menu to see how the design presents itself on screens of different sizes. Each option in the drop-down menu shows the width and orientation of the device it simulates.
In the image below, the message was rendered at the width of 768 pixels.
Preview within Message Builder
The preview of your design is available also in Message Builder. In the Message Builder section, click on "Preview" button and switch from desktop to mobile rendering visualization on the top right.
Eventually, you'll be able to send a test by clicking on the button "send a test".
Preview with Email on Acid
Splio offers integration with the Email on Acid inbox preview tool, accessible from the design preview. To view your current design in Email on Acid, open the "tools" menu and select "Email clients preview".
Email on Acid visualizes the rendering of your email in more than 70 different mobile, web mail, and desktop mail clients.
Click a tile to see the close-up of the design rendered in the selected device or application.
Generating the previews might take a few minutes. Please be patient while Email on Acid converts the emails for all web clients.
Sending a test message
You can also send test messages to preview the rendering of blocks and personalization. To do so, enter the test addresses in the "Test" tab and click the "Test" button.
The personalization data will be taken from the contact information related to the test addresses. Make sure that contacts using these addresses are present in the database.
While this method is fine to test simple personalization with variables, it is not recommended for testing conditional blocks. It will be more effective to use the rendering simulation tool for this purpose first, then follow with Email on Acid.
