The concept of a Enriched SMS is the combination of two things: an SMS and a responsive landing page.
The SMS is a regular SMS that contains a link to a responsive landing page.
The Landing page's goal is to enrich the SMS, which is limited in character, with more information. For instance, the landing page could contain a coupon for a specific promotion, and display the coupon's barcode, product image and information, etc.
Sending Enriched SMS instead of regular messages can increase the performances of a campaign by up to 30%.
You can create a Enriched SMS design in DESIGNER (DESIGNER > SMS, "New SMS design").
Creation of the design
Create an SMS as you would do a regular SMS. To create the link to the landing page, insert the variable $landingUrl$
.
The link (spl.io shortlink) will be generated when the SMS is being sent, for each recipients, to their personalized landing page.
Then, go to the landing page section, and insert or import your HTML.
You may use the same variables in your HTML than you would use for any email design. You may also add the Google Analytics tags to your landing page.
Once your message is created, you may create campaign the same way you would create a regular SMS campaign, be it an ad-hoc campaign, periodic or triggered campaign.
The action's reports will also contain a few indicators for the landing page's activity.
Landing pages
The Landing Pages are managed as a separate category of designs, see the Landing pages library guide for more details.
Landing preview url
It is possible to include a preview of the landing pages for SMS by inserting the following variable in the SMS design: $preview_LandingUrl$
The sent SMS will then display a preview of the landing page:
Please note that this variable uses 6 more characters in the SMS count.
Note: this works on iOS if the variable is used on first or last position and if the landing page includes an open-graph header in its code and works on Android if the sender is in the recipient’s contact list.
Creation of the design
To begin, prepare the content of your landing page. Then go to DESIGNER > Landing pages designs and click the New landing page design button on the right.
Type a name for the new page in the Name / Reference* field and follow to the Landing page editor page.
Paste or upload your design in the editor. You can use the same options available for emails. The same restrictions also apply, e.g., on the use of the WYSIWYG editor.
To complete the creation of your landing page, click the green Save button.
This landing page will now be available for use in your campaigns.
SMS landing pages
Stored landing pages can be used to enrich SMS, normally limited to 160 characters, with additional content.
In order to include an existing landing page in a rich SMS, go to the Landing page editor as the Enriched SMS guide shows, and use the Select from library button.
The landing page library will open in a pop-up panel. Select the landing page you need, using the context search if necessary. Confirm by clicking the green Select button.
The code of the page will be copied to the editor. You can save it or modify it as you need it.
There are no special restrictions associated with SMS landing pages.
It is enough to send a single test to see if the landing page is displayed properly on mobile devices.
