Precise targeting WeChat users may be difficult due to the small amount of available data. In general, the openid and subscription date are the only required fields, and the portal does not share its transactional information.
Splio offers a solution to this problem by allowing you to match WeChat contacts by email or phone number. Once matched, both contacts are considered as describing the same individual. For instance, matching allows you to compare statistics for your WeChat-enabled contacts and other users.
A WeChat filter is based exclusively on WeChat-related data and is meant to be used to target your contacts based on this data.
Creating a WeChat filter
WeChat filters are created in a similar way as other filters.
To begin, go to New filter > WeChat contacts.
Type the name for your filter and provide a description. You can also enter new or select existing tags to enhance searching for your filter.
Clicking Add condition allows you to Add and Remove fields on which conditions will be based. Adding a field more than once will create the selected number of conditions.
The system fields available for WeChat include:
- Declarative data, such as city, province, country, gender, language, nickname;
- WeChat openid and subscribe time;
- Counters for the total number of WeChat messages sent and the number sent this month;
- Whether or not the contact is matched (by email or phone number) with another contact in the database;
- Presence in filters, with which you can limit the contacts to members of another filter or exclude them.
Targeting using matched contacts
Using the targeting mechanisms provided by Splio with WeChat contacts requires that the contacts should be matched, or connected to standard email/SMS contacts existing in the database.
WeChat contacts are matched automatically by email address during import. You can also match any WeChat contacts by editing it and entering a phone number or email belonging to an existing contact.
Note once again that matched contacts can be distinguished with a simple condition. This way, you can create separate segments with matched and non-matched contacts for use in your campaigns.
Intersections & Presence conditions
WeChat filters can be combined with other filters to form intersections. For instance, you can limit the contacts to only those who belong to a WeChat filter (using the AND operator) or exclude them (with the EXCEPT operator).
You can also create a condition for the presence of a contact within a particular filter.
Both methods produce similar results, however, you cannot use presence in intersections as a condition, only presence in segments. On the other hand, you can use both segments and intersections to define new intersections.
